All-State softball
Just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Perry Novak of the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.
He was putting the final touches on the All-State softball teams and may be releasing them later today. If things hold up, our region will be well represented on these teams. As soon as we get them, they will be posted on Varsity Club.
As for All-State baseball, there are still sections who have not submitted their information to Novak -- including Section Nine. Once he has all the information, he'll begin putting together the teams.

Parade in Rhinebeck tonight for state champions
Phil Strum here, in the Journal office in the City of Poughkeepsie.
I called Steve Boucher a little while ago. While the Rhinebeck softball coach and director of athletics was probably still on Cloud Nine after Rhinebeck's Class C state title win over Tioga, he was pleased with what his school was able to accomplish today with Elizabeth Marvin winning the Div. 2 title in the 1,500 run and his softball team's win.
For history's sake, the softball title for Rhinebeck is the first team sport to win a championship in Rhinebeck history. The only other state titles in Rhinebeck history were Laura DeWitt, who won the Class C, state cross country championship in 2002. Kyle Eighmy won the state racewalking championship for Rhinebeck in 1984.
From what I understand, Eighmy — who is now the fire chief of Rhinebeck — has organized a small parade for the state champions in Rhinebeck tonight at 11:30 p.m. If we get any further details before we close shop for the night, we will post them. If not, if you're in Rhinebeck, and you know anything about this, leave a comment.
Either way, congratulations Rhinebeck.

More on Marlboro
The softball team from Marlboro High School gave up just a pair of runs in today's state Class B semifinal, falling to Mechanicville, 2-0, to see their season end at 18-7 overall.
"They were the better team today," Jonnah O'Donnell said after her final game as the Iron Dukes' head coach; she's leaving that post to become Marlboro's athletic director. "I would have liked to go out with a state championship, but (the state) Final Four is not too shabby." Chelsea Lopez's three hits led Marlboro's offense.
