Pine Plains boys' tennis coach Mary Alm just called in her result; her Bombers won their first match of the season, a 3-2 triumph over Coleman.
It wasn't exactly Billie Jean King toppling Bobby Riggs (Billie Jean is pictured above), but Pine Plains' first doubles tandem of Meredith Palmer and Sarah Fishwick (clearly girls and not boys with named like Meredith and Sarah) defeated Steve Warden and Andy Shelton, 6-1, 6-0.
Pine Plains has had girls competing on their team for the past couple of seasons. This was the first win of the season for Palmer and Fishwick.
Alm said that the girls are both tall, but they often end up playing against senior boys, which one would presume to be a little bit of an overmatch. Their opponents today were sophomores and less experienced than their opponents.
Palmer and Fishwick, along with fellow Bombers Lukas Sisco and Nick LaPlante will compete in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championships on the campus of SUNY New Paltz.
