Keeping Track

A former New Paltz HS swimming standout recently helped the Geneseo Knights win their 11th straight league swimming title.

Swimmer Dan Strothenke, who represented the Huguenots in last year's state meet in East Meadow, was part of the Knights' 400-yard freestyle relay team that set a State University of New York Athletic Conference record and an NCAA provisional time of 3 minutes, 6.31 seconds. Strothenke also helped Geneseo's 800 freestyle relay team set another NCAA provisional time, 6:53.75, at the same meet.

Highland HS grad Courtney Cavalieri, a junior at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, led her school's mixed rifle team in a 4,625-4,256 loss at Armry. Cavalieri led the Devils in smallbore competition, shooting 539 (91, 91 prone; 88, 90 stand; 90, 89 kneel).

On the track, Former Spackenkill Spartan Kevin Flynn, now a junior at The College of Saint Rose, was part of the Golden Knights' 3,200 relay team that placed fourth at last Friday's Lafayette-Rider Games. With a time of 8:01.86, Flynn and his teammates broke the former school record in the event by five seconds. That was one of three Saint Rose records set at the event, which was the final of the season for the Golden Knights.
