John Jay High School graduates Samantha Howe and Nicole Oliva, each now playing softball for Manhattanville College, were both honored as Freedom Conference all-conference selections recently. Howe posted a 13-10 pitching record with a 2.13 ERA. Oliva ended her four years at Manhattanville as the Valiants' career leader in games played (182) and hits (180).

Former John Jay standout Jim Schult, now a sophomore outfielder with the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team picked up second-team All-New England honors. He batted .388 as Eastern's everyday rightfielder and No. 3 hitter in the lineup, starting all 44 games in which he appeared. He had 66 hits and was second on the team with 122 total bases and 19 doubles. During the year, he put together a 17-game hitting streak. As a pitcher, he was 4-0 with a 2.72 ERA in 46 1/3 innings. In six NCAA games, he drove in five runs with a double, triple and home run.
The Little East Conference named Wappingers native Eric Fama a second-team, all-conference selection. Playing for Rhode Island College, Fama appeared in 20 games, going 0-1 with 12 saves, a 4.58 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched.
